We arrived at the venue of the celebration at exactly 4:15 in the afternoon to have a short orientation on how the registration would go for all the VIP guests of the big event of National Book Store. I was a part of the registration team and I’d been happy assisting all those high-profile elite guests and business partners as we lead them to their designated table inside the Ballroom.
Every guest was given an open book of Nanay Coring’s memoir written by her daughter Ms. Cecilia Ramos-Licauco together with Ms. Yvette Fernandez.
The 75th celebration of National Book Store was held at Grand Ballroom of Fairmont Hotel in Makati and event proper started at 8:00 in the evening.
The event was star studded with performing celebrity guests namely Sarah Geronimo, Piolo Pascual, and Mr. Pure Energy – Gary Valenciano. It was hosted by the Multimedia Star – Toni Gonzaga. Mr. Rowell Santiago is also at the event as the concert director.

The event turned out to be a success. Those who attended from the different NBS branches and offices had dressed up to their most glamorous look for the evening. All men and women looks so ravishing and elegant with all those ball gowns and suits. As for me, I wore a chiffon dress gown of periwinkle blue with shawl. Me and my colleagues hired a make-up artist/hairstylist to do an airbrush make-up on us and also do our hair styles. I recommend Shades and Glamour Makeup by Karen, they are good in catering weddings, debuts, corporate events, pageants, parties, and other celebrations.
Here are the actual before and after photos of our looks for the celebration:
Being the early birds at the event, me and my colleagues Yna & Cheska were able to enjoy the photo ops:
Together with us as early birds are the Operations People, ICT Heads and Trade Buying Teams:
The dinner at the event was good but not that fulfilling maybe because I'm not really fond of fine dining cuisines. Nevertheless, taste is very healthy. For the dessert, I enjoyed it. The sweetness of the cake in it really suits my taste buds when it comes to sugar level.
As the celebration ended, we had the chance of getting in the frame with Nanay Coring, Ms. Xandra, Sir Adrian, and Sir Anton:
We also had framed with our Supply Chain & Marketing Team Heads as the party ended:
The celebration had been a “national event”, with 226 branches all across the Philippines and expected for 14 more branches top open before the year ends. There are also two branches in Hong Kong.

National Book Store is a true success story for every Filipino. It was started by Ms. Socorro Ramos or Nanay Coring as they call her together with her late husband Jose Ramos. The bookstore has its humble beginning as a small bookshop in Ecolta during the 1940s, however this very first store was burned down during the World War II. The second store was constructed along Avenida in Sta. Cruz, Manila, however it was also destroyed by a tropical storm.
Currently National Book Store is now being managed by the grand children of Nanay Coring, who are also the third generation of the Ramos clan. The Managing Director is Xandra Ramos-Padilla, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is Adrian Ramos, and the Vice President for Business Development is Anton Ramos. On their side are their parents, Mr. Alfredo Ramos as the President and Mrs. Precy Ramos as the Vice President.
Xandra Ramos-Padilla had stressed out that the success of National Book Store is not only credited to Nanay Coring’s resilience but also to her vision of providing Filipinos with books and supplies at its affordable prices. While every Filipino buying books and school/art supplies at National Book Store, Nanay Coring is able to help them visualize their dreams, bookmark their progress, and build their empowerment through pencils, pens, crayons, or notebooks. In 2004, the National Book Store Foundation was founded with more than 500 libraries nationwide. The foundation had also distributed more than 2,000,000 school supplies kits around the Philippines.
Among the important guests and partners who attended the “national event” include the country’s business leaders – Dr. Emilio C. Yap III (Manila Bulletin), Tessa Sy Coson (SM Supermalls), Robina Pe (Robinsons), and Judy Araneta Roxas (Araneta Group).
