Being a parent to a millennial child can be very pressuring. Why? Because with the highly competitiveness of the world today, you need to make your child ready for her or his future learning and school life in order not to be left behind from other kids. You can say that I’m too paranoid but of course every parent would want his or her child to excel in school and at the same time be ready in future challenges of life. We also want them to be independent and be successful someday. Because of this mindset that my husband and I have, we agreed to enroll our toddler at Kindermuzik program offered by CTEC (Children’s Talent Education Center) in Greenhills, San Juan City - an authorized school-home in the Philippines.
Kindermusik is an internationally-acclaimed program established by a group of passionate educators who are committed to bring the language of music to children. Since 1978, the curriculum program of Kindermusik had enhance many lives all over the world as it provides early foundation to children for future school success and supports the entire development of every child.
The overall ambiance and settings of CTEC is very calm, safe, secured and suits perfectly as a learning center for starters. The room doors have different colors so it’s easier to identify which room belongs to your kid. The wideness of the grass area is very enticing. And of course the area is very clean. There are also some animals in cages at the sides of the room. When I entered the place the first time, I had flashbacks on how my mom entered me in the same type of school when I was 6 years old. Oh my, I miss my Mom :) but I know she’s very for me as I get to experience motherhood on my own. Along the way, it’s really hard because you don’t have a mother who can guide you and share with you on the same experiences. But every day, I’m doing my best to be the best mother that I could be to my daughter. And with the help of some friends, relatives, and learning materials for parents and motherhood from online. Through these stuffs, I’m able to cope.
My toddler had started her first class last July 2 – which is every Saturday only. To date, we are now on her fifth Saturday class. We still have 11 classes to go to complete the program. On her first day of class, we are the early bird. We came to school earlier than 8AM whereas the class will start at 9AM. It’s just a one-hour class. When we arrived at the room, my toddler was surprise of the setup. She screams “wow” and engages herself on the activity area immediately. My toddler often gets amazed on new things and places. She always shows her appreciation and gives her full smiles on things that are new to her. As a parent, it really makes me happy. It only means that my efforts are not wasted and that I can make my child happy. Her happiness is my happiness as well.
As the start of the class is fast approaching, one by one her classmates are arriving. Some kids came both with their parents, some kids came with only one parent, and some kids came with their nanny or “yaya”. For those kids who came with both of their parents, I feel for them! If you get to see them, they are exhausted as we are. Probably because they are also working parents like us. Well, if you want the best for your child, you will conquer everything regardless if it’s a tiresome body or mind.
In this class, the girls are outnumbered. When all the kids are in, Teacher Dang started the class already. Well, in a toddler class such as this, you don’t expect the children to behave and sit down steadily at place. Most of them are crawling, hopping around, playing around, monkeying around, and more. I really salute Teacher Dang’s patience and resiliency in facilitating the class.
During the class, I never expected my toddler to show “leadership”. This is how Teacher Dang had described her. She’s somehow bossy but she’s a leader to develop. She often gives instructions to her classmates in packing away the toys. She also instructs some of her classmates to take a sit. She’s very dominating but I guess she understands the reason of being in that place. I was surprised on what she had displayed on the first day. Other activities displayed at the class also include how to pack away toys, story-telling, finding Mommy and Daddy, locomotor movements, and identifying objects.
